EPISODE_02
In less than ten minutes, Esther got dressed and they left the house.
Esther started her car engine and they got inside her car. Soon,they were on the way.
After driving almost close to an hour, driving past streets after streets, Esther turned to look at Agnes, confused.
“Where exactly are we going to? We have been driving close to an hour now. Where do you say we are going to?”Esther questioned.
“Just keep going. I will tell you when to stop driving.” Agnes replied, staring around the road.
Esther breathed in and sped up. They drove for extra two hours before they finally got to a small village.
They came down from the car. Esther looked around, confused.”Where’s this place?” She asked, turning look at Agnes.
“This is Udori town . We are going to park this car here and trek down to the temple.” Agnes replied.
“Temple? What temple!” Esther asked.
“Come on, Esther. Your questions are becoming too much. You wanted to come here desperately,right?
The temple where we are going to meet up with the woman who is going to help you conceive of course.” Agnes said impatiently.
They took a bush part and trekked down for a long minute before they got to a open land which had a single building on it….the temple.
“We are here. That’s the temple over there.” Agnes said and Esther stared at the white building ahead her.
Her mind told her to run, screamed at her to run but Esther ignored it, rather,she found herself going on with her friend.
Agnes removed her shoes and entered the wide open room. Esther removed her shoes too and enter the hall.
“Mother of babies, peace be unto you.” Agnes greeted as soon as they entered.
Esther stared on,her heart pounding.
“Peace be unto you,my child!” A loud voice answered and Esther looked up to see a woman coming inside the hall through the back room with her back turned against them.
Agnes bowed and Esther did the same.
“You may have your seats my children and look up and tell mother of babies what you have come to do at the temple.” The woman said and they looked up.
Esther nearly gasped when she saw the woman’s fave. She looked so young she knew she was very older than her.
How could she call them her children? Esther wondered.
“Well,that’s because I may look young but I’ve lived on this Earth for over an hundred years.”
The woman replied and Esther flinched, scared to her born. She glanced at Agnes.
“How…how did she knew what…!” Esther asked and the woman smiled,cutting her short with the raise of her hand.
“You must desperate indeed. You should have allowed your friend to bring you here the first place.
Your pains would have come to an end. No need to explain anything to me. Mere looking at you,I know everything already.” The woman said as Esther nodded vigorously.
She wanted desperately for her problems to be solved.
“Please..em…em… mother of babies, please help me out. I’m ready to pay anything. Just make this possible for me. I will do anything if this is actually done. Please,help me and shame those people that have turned me into a laughing stock.” Esther sobbed, almost kneeling down.
Mother of babies laughed and stood up.”Get up, Esther.” She commanded. Esther stood up sharply and mother of babies turned to the alter.
She raised up her two hands, chanting some inaudible incantations.
She went back inside and brought out a clay pot, placing it in front of the alter.
She told Esther to come closer to the alter and she immediately did so.
“Kneel in front of that pot.” M.O.B instructed and Esther did as instructed.
“Tonight,you must make love to you husband.
This pot you are kneeling in front of,is full of water from the ocean and you are going to go home with it.
Immediately you get home,place it under your matrimonial bed. It must be done before you have a sexual intercourse with your husband.
After that,the next day,when you are alone. Bring out the pot and open it. An egg will appear.
Take it out and go straight to the kitchen. Boil it and eat every part of the egg. Don’t peel off. I repeat, don’t peel off!” M.O.B shouted as Esther nodded vigorously.
“I will do as you’ve told me.” She quickly replied.
“Touch the pot thrice and carry it.”
Esther quickly touched it twice and lifted up the pot ever gently. It was so light she doubted if there was any water in it.
“But what do we give you, mother of babies?” Agnes asked as she stood up.
M.O.B smiled.”Let her come back alone with her pregnancy and offer whatever she wants to offer. You may leave now!”
M.O.B shouted and the two women immediately left the temple.
When they got to the car,Esther quickly put the clay pot inside the booth before she could talk.”Are you sure this is going to work?” She asked Agnes who have a a reassuring smile.
“Trust me. Just do as instructed and everything will work out fine.” Agnes replied.
She got home in the evening and went into the house, leaving the clay pot inside the car.
She planned to bring it out in the night when everyone had retired to sleep.
“And where have you been since morning?Danny threw at her as soon as she came in.
He was sitting with Mama in the living room.
Mama sneered and hissed loudly,before looking away.
“I…I… went out to get something with Agnes my friend. You know her, right?” Esther said.
“And where is the something that you got?” Danny asked as Esther scratched her head.”Well I did not see my choice of mattress the mall.”
“Matress? That’s all you can think of in this situation, Esther?” Mama queried.
“What else do you want me to think of, Ma?
Should I kill myself so everybody will know that this situation is also killing me?”Esther asked, losing her temper.
What was wrong with the old hag?
Mama was instantly furious as she stood up to pick a fight with Esther. Esther did not wait. She walked upstairs, leaving the woman barking downstairs.
At 12 midnight,Esther brought out the pot and gently carried it inside their bedroom.
Carefully,not to wake Danny up,she placed it under the bed.
After she was done with that,She joined Danny in bed and forced him on herself then they had sex.

***IN THE OCEAN***
“Tonight,someone is going to leave us and out of this kingdom for years to the human world.
To bring more souls and win more hearts to the water world.
Mother of babies made sacrifices just right now and have requested from me a child for a couple.
I need more from the human world and therefore I’m going to send someone capable.”
Queen mother said,and pointed her staff at a girl, sitting in the middle in front of her.
“Annabella,You’ve always wanted to go out to the human world and experience the world out there.
I guess this is the opportunity to do so and I’m trusting you for a job well done by the time you shall come back.” The queen mother said as the girl swarm up, her tail shining with it’s bright pink colour.
She was the most beautiful, prettiest and smartest with long beautiful dark hair.
Others were jealous of her tail for it was adorned with shinning diamonds.
“Yes, queen of the coast, send me for I am going to bring souls to you. My so called parents are going to be the first to go.”Annabella said,evil smile playing across here face.
Queen mother smiled and wore her a medallion.”This is to prevent you from turning into a mermaid out there whenever water touches you. You must not take it off.” Queen mother said.
“Yes, mother.” Annabella replied.
“You must not take it off on no account and that’s why love must not appear in your heart.
Love is forbidden.It is a crime in the water world. If you must succeed,don’t fall in love! Don’t fall in love with a human! I repeat… don’t fall in love with a human!!…….

There was jubilation in Danny’s house. Everyone thought it was a joke when Esther started vomiting and having symptoms of pregnancy.
She had to go to the hospital and it was confirmed positive by the doctor.
She quickly called Agnes and told her the latest news.
When Esther ran home, jubilating and showed the results to Danny,he felt on top of the world. Very soon,he was going to be a father.
Mama showered Esther with care and made sure she was well taken care of.
“No o. Let me buy you more fruits o. You are carrying my first grandchild and very soon,you are going to give birth to my grandchild.
So,let me take care of you.” Mama said and Esther laughed.
Three mouths later,she went back to mother of babies and showed her appreciation and branched to Agnes’s house to see her and thank her again.
Agnes was happy to see her friend’s protruding tummy. It was a great sight.
“Now I’m sure your mother inlaw now dotes on you.” Agnes said,laughing.
“Abi now. In fact,she now forces me to eat fresh fruits and vegetables.” Esther replied,laughing.
After discussing with her friend for some hours,she took her leave and went back home.
Mama had already prepared her favourite on her arrival. Esther was happy as she ate to her feel.
She was taking her bath when Danny arrived from work. He cane into the bathroom to meet her.
He kissed her forehead and and belly,letting the water dripping all over her to wet his clothing.
Esther laughed.
“I’m so happy dear. This is our first child ever. I’m soon going to become a father.”
Danny said as Esther wrapped herself with a towel and they came out of the bathroom.
“I’m happy too dear. But what do we name our baby when it is born?” Esther asked.
“Well if it’s a boy,we are going to name him Peter and it it’s a girl ….we are going to name her Cassandra. Good?”
“Yes,good.” Esther replied.
After dinner,they both retired to bed together.
“How was work today?” Esther asked as she layed down beside his, putting her left arm across him.
“Oh it was hectic but okay.” Danny replied.
They discussed about other things and soon, Esther slept off……..

She found herself running and screaming, shouting for help which looked like it was never going to help.
Esther ran on and ran till she got to a beach and stopped.
She looked back to see if the unknown creature was still chasing her.
She looked at the wide ocean and shouted for help again. There was no way to escape.
She couldn’t swim and couldn’t jump into the wide ocean.
She heard laughter before her and turned, trembling.
She screamed again as a mermaid appeared before her, holding a doll.
“Hi new mummy.” The mermaid said and smiled evilly.
“What… what…do you want!” Esther stammered, running back almost falling into the water.
“What do I want? How could you ask your child that in such a manner?
Well, mummy…very soon,you are going to be having me. I’m here to tell you my name.”
The mermaid said, throwing her doll up as Esther waved her head,shifting back and back.
“No….you are not my child! You can never be my child!” Esther shouted and the doll dropped from the mermaid’s hands.
She turned to look at Esther,her face changing.
The colour of her eyes turned bright red and fury circulated the frame of her face as she made towards Esther.
“I said I’m here to tell you my name!” Her voice echoed, slamming into Esther who waved her head still,moving backwards and backwards, going deeper into the water.
” Listen, mummy! Listen to my name! I said listen to my name!” The mermaid screamed,almost making Esther deaf as she screamed too and fell straight into the deep waves.
She screamed and screamed for help as the water covered up on her….. swallowing her whole body..her whole being…..

“Aaaaaaaa!!!”Esther screamed out of sleep,panting. Danny woke up immediately too,alarmed.
“What’s that? What happened!” Danny asked, taking her arms.
Esther could not talk. She trembled so hard like a leaf.
“Honey,talk to me. What’s wrong?” Danny persuaded but Esther continued panting as she remembered the strange dream.
What sort of a dream is this? She asked herself,still staring around.
Why would a mermaid be calling her,her new mummy and telling her to listen to her name? What sort of baby was she able to have?
“Answer me, Esther! What’s wrong with you? Are you alright?” Danny asked again, probing into her thoughts.
She couldn’t tell Danny about such a dream. How could she?.
“I’m…fine,Danny it was only a night mare.” Esther replied, finding her voice once again.
Danny petted her and they went back to sleep since she refused to tell him anything about the dream.

“Hurry,mama! Help bring down the baby’s bag!” Danny shouted as he held Esther who was screaming. She was in labour.
He led her downstairs and help her into the car. Mama rushed down with the baby’s bag, excited.
Danny collected it sharply and threw it into the booth running to the driver’s seat.
“Am I not going with you people?” Mama asked.
“No mama. Stay at home. Take care if the house and await good news,okay?” Danny replied and zoomed out of the compound, speeding to the hospital.
Mama returned inside, praying earnestly for a save delivery.
They got to the hospital and Esther was wheeled to the labour room.
Danny waited in the waiting room, praying to God.
“Quick. Hurry and wear her the cloth.” The doctor ordered the nurses as he put on his hand gloves.
Esther continued to scream, shouting Danny’s full name. Even his surname.
The nurses layed her on the bed and dressed her for the delivery posture.
The doctor got to work as two out of the four nurses held her hands.
“Okay,madam. You are going to breath in and push when I order you to,okay? Now,one,two ready…..push!” The doctor said,and Esther pushed. She stopped and cried out Danny’s name again.
“Oh please Daniel! Come and help me! It’s really painful!” She continued shouting.
After several attempts of pushing,the baby refused to come out and complications became much.
Two hours thirty minutes later,the baby came out with it’s legs. The doctor and nurses were confused.
Babies like this were rare. And recently, babies coming out with their legs were always corrected during x-rays.
“It’s coming out, doctor!” One nurse exclaimed as the baby began to come out on it’s own, without being pushed.
Getting to the neck,it hanged.
“Push!” The doctor shouted at Esther and she pushed out the baby as all the entire body came out. The cry of a new born baby, circulated the whole room.
The nurses were silent as they left Esther’s hands. Normally,they would have told her well done. You did it but this was strange.
Esther let in a deep breath and raised her head to look at her baby in the hands if one of the nurses and breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn’t a mermaid at all….
“Doctor… doctor! Look at the baby’s neck!” The nurse holding the baby screamed as she was about to wash off the blood out of the body.
They all looked at the crying baby and gasped.
“What!!”they chorused.
Esther raised her head too and gasped.”What…. what’s happening!!”
Firmly balancing on the new baby’s neck was the medallion being given to the mermaid by the queen mother inside the ocean.
The doctor pointed at the baby with a shaky finger, confused.”A necklace?? On a new baby??……….

“Con….con… congratulations…your wife has given…birth to a baby girl.” The doctor stammered as he came out of the labour room,and saw Danny waiting.
Danny sighed happily as he shook hands with the doctor.”Oh, doctor….thank you so much.
Ah, God! Finally.” Danny said and noticed that the doctor was smiling nervously.”But….hope everything is alright?” Danny asked.
“Everything is perfectly okay but I don’t understand how a new baby will be wearing a necklace of any sort into the world.”
Danny’s face crumpled up with confusion as his head dipped down.” A necklace!”

Danny stood beside Esther as they both stared at their new baby together.
It was already evening.
They were already in another room and mama too was in her way to the hospital to see her new grandchild.
“What do you suggest we do about this necklace? Why would you say we shouldn’t remove it?” Danny asked Esther.
“I just feel like the medallion is important. Why can’t we just leave it for now?” Esther asked and just then,mama entered jubilantly.
She rushed over to them and dropped her bag on the bed, hugging Esther first.
“You’ve done a marvelous thing,my dear! Thanks be to God!”
Mama said, carrying her grandchild and staring down at her with love.”Wow…what an adorable baby girl.
You are welcome my dear.” Mama said but she did not notice the strange medallion.
“Danny, please. Let’s go home first thing tomorrow morning. I’m already strong enough.” Esther said as Danny nodded.
The baby fell asleep and was placed inside the baby’s cot.
“Have you breastfeeded her?” Mama asked and Esther quickly nodded.
It was a fatal lie. She could not tell anyone that her own new born baby refused to suck her breast!
Three days after the baby’s birth,she was named Cassandra.
Then they started seeing wonder.

Six months later, Cassandra could walk already. She would jump from step to another.
As she grew,her medallion grew with her. Esther knew she could not complain about anything whenever she remembered the source of her pregnancy.
Cassandra was not like other kids who cried to their mummy for things. She was always on her own, doing things are self!
“What type of sharpness do you call that! She’s too small to have started walking.
That means we have to put her in school. Can’t you see how strong she is?
Look right now,I’m afraid of my own daughter. As in… Cassandra doesn’t look like a baby.”Danny said one night when they’ve retired to bed.
“Danny you worry too much. I’ve told you several times that God blessed us with a sharp kid as compensation for the delay but you keep on complaining!
If Cassandra can go to school,I don’t mind putting her there. Kindergarten of course.”
Esther said and Danny stared unbelievably at her.
“Just listen to yourself. How can you say a six month old should go to school? No o.
it won’t happen in this house. Cassandra will be one year old before going to school.” Danny said and went to sleep.
Esther sat thinking. A six months old baby? Already walking and even preparing to talk!.

Six years later……
Cassandra walked into the house in her uniform,her face unsmiling and full of rage and hatred.
Her hair fell across her shoulders. She looked so beautiful and light skinned.
She just had a message from the ocean to start her mission on Earth and needed someone…. someone to go first.
She dropped her bag on the nearest sofa next to her and stared around the house, straining her ears to know if someone was around.
Oh..oh…that annoying old woman is here.
Cassandra stood at the middle of the room,her eyes changing it’s dark colours.
Kill her…kill her…kill her…..!! Cassandra jerked her head up as the voice formed put of her medallion.
She smiled as she heard mama coming down from the stairs. Mama flinched as she saw Cassandra standing there like that. She was scared to her bone marrows.
“You this girl! Why do you like standing and scaring people,why? Do you want to give me heart attack one day!” mama scolded angrily but Cassandra continued staring at her, through the rage in the eyes.
Mama stopped Midway and looked at Cassandra again. She was getting scared.
The look on this six year wasn’t a look of six year at all. It looked like a look on the face of a thousand year old demon.
“What… what’s wrong with you? Ho upstairs and change your school uniform!” Mama commanded but Cassandra kept staring at her as the voice continued ringing in her ears.
Mama was both angry and scared at the same time.
“Cassandra, I’m talking to you…..
“My name!”, Cassandra shouted,her voice like that of an adult cut mama shut as she moved back.
” Is not Cassandra.” Cassandra said and mama looked at her supposed grandchild. She thought she was only playing around.
“How dare you shout at me like that,you silly child?” Mama queried and to her Surprise, Cassandra started laughing.
Only if this old woman knows she’s about to say goodbye to the world….
Mama felt insulted. What type of a child is this? “Cassandra,stop!” Mama scolded.
I won’t condone any insult from you just because you are a child.”
Cassandra stopped immediately,rage filling her face again as the woman called her that name again.
“I told you my name is not Cassandra. I’m Annabella!”
“You must be suffering from lack of home training and peer pleasure because your mummy dotes on you too much.
I warned her. Now see the result.
I won’t hear any rubbish from you again. Go upstairs and change your clothes!”
Mama said but Cassandra stood still, waiting for the old woman to come to her.
Kill her…kill her…kill her…..
“Are you deaf? I said go upstairs and change.” Mama said marching to Cassandra.
Kill her…kill her…. kill her…..with the dagger….kill her…
As soon as she reached her and grabbed her ear, Cassandra pulled out a little dagger from her school pocket and drove it into Mama’s stomach.
Mama screamed and let go of her, falling to the ground as blood sputtered out but Cassandra let out a loud laughter as she continued to sink the knife into the woman’s belly,again and again…. deeper and deeper….
