It was getting to twelve pm and Odeya was in Amanda’s arms, sleeping and Amanda patting her gently on the back.
“Finally she is asleep.” Amanda breathed out.
She stood up with Odeya still in her arms and Carried her to the bed. Dropping her, she covered her with the duvet.
“Sleep sound Deya.” Amanda said before turning on the bedside lamp, then turned off the electric lights and walked out, closing the door.
Sighing, she headed downstairs to switch off the lights.
“I hope he’s fine.. If he was not going to come home he should have called. He didn’t even pick up his calls. That’s really unfair.” she soliloquize as she walked down the staircase and turned towards the kitchen.
“I pray he’s fine at least. I would be happy if Odeya deal with him tomorrow. So annoying and unfair. I had to carry Odeya for so long and sang lullaby’s before she fell asleep. She was really angry.”
She opened the fridge, poured herself a glass of water and gulped down.
‘Could it be work? Where could he be and what is he doing…’
She touched her forehead. “Ahh why I’m I thinking so much. I should go to bed.” She said and kept back the cup, closed the fridge, turned off the lights and headed out. Coming out to the sitting room, she turned off lights, leaving just one light on then headed upstairs.
She opened Odeya’s room door and took a look at her before closing back the door and turned to her room which was opposite Odeya’s.
She dropped on her bed and sighed.
“I’m so exhausted for no reason and I’m not even feeling sleepy.”
She pulled the duvet over body and tried closing her eyes for sleep but no sleep was coming.
She decided to listen to music but an hour later, she pulled off the earphones and sat up from the bed.
She felt reckless and uncomfortable. She seem to be having body bites and she was becoming thirsty and hungry as well.
“What’s wrong with me tonight?” she asked herself.
“Songs had always been my pill to sleep, but I’ve been listening to it for upto an hour now but no sleep was coming. I’m I really OK?”
She shook her head. “No I don’t think I am.”
She got out of the bed, pulled into her slippers and walked out of her room.
She headed downstairs and walked into the kitchen. Turning on the lights, she opened the refrigerator and took out two packs of chocolate biscuits and a juice. Closing the refrigerator, she turned off the lights and went back to the sitting room.
“I will watch movies then.” She said as she sat on a couch. She took the remote control and turned on the TV.
A nollywood movie played on the TV screen.
Amanda opened the biscuit and juice. She ate as she watched the movie on the TV.
She kept glancing at the time, wishing she would hear a car horn at the gate and Desmond car being driven in and him opening the door and saying to her, ‘I’m sorry dear, I’m late today’
Amanda slapped her forehead. “What’s wrong with me. Stop dreaming Amanda, stop dreaming. He’s your boss! If you think about him one more time, you are dead.” she threatened herself and cut hard on the biscuit.

Gold was cuddled in Desmond’s arms as they lay on the comfy bed.
“I love you so much sweetie.” Gold said with a satisfied smile.
Desmond kissed her. “I love you more baby.” he said.
“I’m thirsty. I would go get water.” Gold said and got out from the bed.
She entered the kitchen and smiled triumphantly.
“Just a little sprinkle on the food, I got him to be mine. No time for dulling.. You are mine now Desmond.” she said.

As Desmond waa waiting for Gold’s return.. he suddenly remembered his phone and grabbed his trouser which hung on the sofa. He searched the pockets and found it.
He saw his daughter’s missed calls and sighed.
“She shouldn’t be calling. She has her nanny to stay with her. I’m sorry baby, I’m with the love of my life. I will be back soon.” he said.
“Who are you talking to?” Gold asked, emerging in with two glasses of water.
Desmond raised his phone. “My daughter was calling. I missed her calls. She must have been worried. But it’s fine.. Her nanny would stay with her. I will apologize to her when I get back.” he said.
“Oh it’s really my fault. I’m sorry. Can I see her today? I really wanna meet her.” she asked.
Desmond dropped his phone on the couch and sat back on the bed.
“No problem but isn’t that too soon. My daughter is pretty hard.” he said.
Gold smiled. “I don’t care. I wanna meet her.”
Desmond shrugged. “Fine.. If you want.”
“Here, have some water and get a rest. You are going to work to in the morning.” Gold said.
“Thanks baby” he said as he collected the glass of water, drank and Gold took the empty glass and dropped it on the table with hers.
She joined him on the bed and they cuddled each other.
Gold was in all smiles.
Desmond had no idea what he was doing…

(Next day)
Amanda opened her eyes and when her eyes landed on the clock, she flinched in fright.
“6:40am!” she gasped and jumped up from the couch where she slept on.
She had fallen asleep in the sitting room and the TV was still on.
She quickly grabbed the remote and turned it off. She picked the empty biscuits packs and empty juice pack and rushed to the kitchen.
“I woke up so late…. I hope I finish on time.. God, why did I had to watch that movie.. What’s wrong with me.. Odeya mustn’t go late to school or I’m dead” She nagged at herself.
Then she tilted her head. ‘Was I really watching the movies or I was thinking too much?’
“Ahh snap it off Amanda and hurry up.” she told herself.
She was supposed to cook macaroni but she can’t since it’s late.
“Tea and bread is the fastest. I will make that.” She said and grabbed the kettle.
‘Shouldn’t I make tea for Odeya’s dad? What if he doesn’t come back now.’ she thought.
Just then, she heard the zooming in of his car.
Her heart skipped immediately.
One, the excitement that he’s back and two, the fear that she havent prepared odeya for school yet.
“What I’m I going to do?” she asked herself.

“Ahh Oga. Welcome oh.. Shey you sleep for office? I wait wait for gate i tire but you no come back.” I.K said.
Desmond ignored him and walked to the door porch, he opened the door and entered.
No one was in the sitting room.
“Odeya should be out now, dressed for school..” he said.
He headed upstairs and opening his daughter’s door, he met her still sleeping.
“Still sleeping? Where’s her nanny?”

“How do I explain that I woke up late? How do I? What do I do?” Amanda pondered.
“Why I’m I so scared to see him. Why are my hands shaking and why I’m I feeling butterflies in my stomach.”

Desmond walked in and went to his daughter. He rolled off the duvet and caressed her hair.
“I’m sorry darling that I didn’t come home last night. I’m here now. Wake up.” he said.
“Deya?”
“Wake up Dearie.”
Odeya gently opened her eyes and saw her dad staring at her.
“Dad… I was worried.” she said.
Desmond took her hand and kissed it. “I’m sorry dearie. Work was much so I slept off at the office.” he lied.
“And what about my calls?” she asked.
“I’m sorry dearie that I missed your calls. I wasn’t with my phone at that moment.” he lied.
Amanda got to Odeya’s door and leaned her ear to it.
“Dad I know I’m five but I know when someone is lying. You just lied dad. It’s written on your face. So better tell me the truth.” Odeya said.
Desmond breathed out. “I’m sorry daughter. Actually I slept-”
The door opened and Amanda walked in, interrupting the cat about to be let out of the bag.
“Good morning sir. I’m sorry that I woke up late today to prepare Odeya for school.” she said and walked to Odeya. “Deya, come and take your bathe.”
“I’m not until he tells me where he was last night. He is lying.” Odeya said then narrowed her eyes at Amanda. “And I recall saying I ain’t going to that school anymore.”
“You are not what?” Desmond asked.
Odeya glared at him.
“Come on Deya… I will be right there with you. I promise to shut anyone who tries to make jest of you.” Amanda said
“Really?” Odeya asked.
Amanda nodded with an assuring smile.
“Fine then.” Deya said and spread her hands. “Carry me.”
Amanda smiled and carried her. While she was doing so, her arm brushed with Desmond’s… She felt a sensation run through her which almost made her drop Odeya.
“Are you OK nanny?” Odeya asked.
“Yes I am.” Amanda said and hurried into Odeya’s bathroom.
Desmond exhaled.
“She’s just like her mom. Too smart and sensitive. I’m sorry Odeya. I’m gonna get you another mom. I hope you like her when you see her.” With that, he stood up and walked out.

Amanda doesn’t want to believe it but she was so sure that his sleeping outside had to do with a lady.
Odeya was right, he lied to her.
Was he going to tell a five years old girl that he slept with a woman or how is he even going to tell it to her?
Amanda scoffed.
Her heart ache and she was filled with jealousy.
It’s obvious that she likes her boss.
She finished bathing Odeya and dressed her up.
“Why did you wake up late?” Odeya asked her as she was putting on her socks and shoes.
“I was wondering why you haven’t asked. I couldn’t get a sleep so I stayed in the sitting room watching movies until I slept off.” Amanda said.
“Why couldn’t you get a sleep?” Odeya asked.
“Huh… I think because the weather was hot.” Amanda lied.
How can she tell her that it’s because she was worried about her dad. And she was worried because she likes him. No way.
“Tch.. Now you lie to me too. There was light, and there was AC. Why’s everyone lying today. I wonder how many lies would be told in school today. Just thinking about it makes me sick to the bone.” Odeya said.
Amanda sighed and stood up since she was done putting on her shoes.
“Let’s go downstairs. Your breakfast was supposed to be macaroni but since I woke up really late, I had to make tea. I’m sorry about that” Amanda said.
“Ugh… Don’t stay up late worrying about my dad again.” Odeya said.
Amanda’s jaw dropped. “Wh what are you t..talking about?”
Odeya chuckled. “I’m smart.”
“No I wasn’t thinking.. I mean, I wasn’t worried about your dad.” Amanda said.
“Well I’m telling you not to.. I’m gonna make my dad and my mom come back together. I won’t let him date anyone. My mom and dad are gonna be back together, again.” Odeya said.
Amanda inhaled.

Ten minutes later, Odeya had finished her breakfast. Amanda carried her and they headed out to the car.
Desmond was preparing for work upstairs so he didn’t get to say ‘bye’ to Odeya.
Once Amanda and Odeya were in the car, Peter drove off.
“We don go late today o.” Peter said.
“Yes, it’s all my fault. I woke up late.” Amanda said.
Odeya glanced at her.
Amanda wondered why.
…………..
The drive to the school was in silence. Soon peter pulled into the school and looking at Odeya, she seem scared.
Amanda took her hand. “Don’t worry Deya. I’m here with you.” she said.
“You should be. You made me come to school today.” Odeya said.
Amanda smiled. “It’s great that came. Let’s go.”
Amanda carried her and they came down from the car and headed to the school.
“Bring me down.” Deya said. Amanda brought her down.
“I don’t like being carried.” she said.
“As if you knew. I dont like carrying people.” Amanda teased.
Odeya scoffed.
Soon, they were standing in front of the entrance to Odeya’s class.
“Are you ready?” Amanda asked.
Odeya breathed in then out. “Yes I guess.”
Amanda took her hand and they walked in.
The class was in silence and Amanda noticed that every child had a weary face including their form teacher.
Odeya noticed this too but then she noticed that Jeremy was absent. He isn’t in class.
That’s unlike him. Jeremy always comes very early to school. Everyday before her. She always meet him in school.
She felt the urge to ask about him but she couldn’t.
“Go on to your seat Deya.” Amanda said after handing Odeya her lunch box.
Odeya hesitantly walked to her desk and sat down. With her eyes on Jeremy’s empty seat.
Amanda walked to the Mrs Tonia.
“Is everything okay? Here seems to be too tensed and quiet.” Amanda asked.
Mrs Tonia glanced at Odeya who had her eyes still at Jeremy’s seat. She turned back to Amanda and exhaled then bringing low her voice, she answered.
“He had an accident with his driver this morning while coming to school.”
Amanda’s jaw dropped in shock and at that moment, Odeya sprang up from her seat as well, in tears.
Her seatmate had just broke the news to her at the same time Mrs Tonia broke it to Amanda.
“How is he? and his driver?” Amanda asked.
“They are both at Lovecare Hospital. It’s close by. ” Mrs Tonia said.
Amanda rushed to Odeya. Odeya’s tears were pouring out uncontrollably. Amanda hugged her. “It’s okay. Don’t cry. He’s fine OK.” she said.
“I want to see him. Please take me to him.” Odeya cried as all her classmates stared at her and Amanda.
For the first time, Odeya said ‘please’ to Amanda. Why did it have to be in such a situation?
“I want to see him please.” she said.
Amanda inhaled. “It’s okay. Let’s go.”
With that Amanda grabbed her hand and they hurried out of the class, back into the car.
Peter was confused.
“What is it nah? Did they tell her to go home?” Peter asked.
“Drive us to LoveCare Hospital please. She said it’s close to the school.” Amanda said.
“Ehen, I know the hospital but why we dey go there? What is the problem?” Peter asked.
“Just take us there and quit asking questions!!” Odeya yelled.
Peter shrugged and started the car and soon, they were heading to Lovecare hospital.
Amanda cuddled Odeya.
“It’s okay. Don’t cry. I’m sure he’s alright OK.”
‘He? What is happening?’ Peter wondered.

Soon, peter drove into the big hospital and pulled to the parking lot.
“We’ve arrived. Come on.” Amanda said and opened the door, she helped Odeya out of the car and they hurried into the hospital.
“I’m here to see the little boy and his driver that got involved in an accident and were brought here this morning.” Amanda told the attendant nurses.
“Their names?” One of the nurse asked.
Their names… Amanda looked at Odeya.
“Jeremy Adebayo but I don’t know his driver’s name.” Odeya said.
“Oh give me a minute please.” The nurse said and checked through a book.
“Ward 72 for both patients.” she said.
Amanda grabbed Odeya’s hand. “Thank you.” then she turned to Peter who stood, staring at them. “Please wait here for us. We will be back.” With that, they hurried towards the ward.
In a minute, they were standing at the door of ward 72.
Amanda grabbed the doorknob and slowly, she opened it and her eyes fell on a familiar face immediately they walked in.
Odeya removed her hand and rushed to where Jeremy lay on the bed in bandages and his eyes closed and taking a blood drip.
“Jeremy… Jeremy…wake up.” she called but a man was quick enough to hold her.
“It’s okay child. Be quiet. He’ll be fine.” The man who looked like both Jeremy and the familiar face said to Odeya.
The familiar face. Isn’t he the bicycle guy they met yesterday?
Yes he is.
Amanda remembered him now.
‘So Jeremy was actually the brother he mentioned.’
At the other side was a more bandaged man taking the same drip as Jeremy.
He must be the driver.
A woman too was in the ward, sitting beside Jeremy and staring at him with tearful eyes. She must be his mother.

[At Desmond’s office] “…The contract should be sighed immediately Mr Fumi is back from Abuja…. A meeting would be held..” Desmond was saying but suddenly touched the side of his head.
‘..Gold. Gold…can you stop coming to my mind for a moment. I want to concentrate on my work’ Desmond said within.
“Are you alright director?” Henry asked.
Desmond removed his hand from the side of his head. “Yes I am.”

Back at Lovecare hospital, two hours later, Amanda, Odeya and Jimi sat at the hospital lounge.
“…Thank God that it wasn’t worse than that. He will be fine as soon as possible.” Amanda said.
Jimi nodded. “I pray he will. And for Mr Lekan, he case seem worse. He will have to be in a wheel chair for many months or even a year. He was always careful when driving. This would be so hard for his family.”
Odeya was in between them. She patted his hand.
Jimi took her hand and turned to her. “What you did today shows that you really like my brother. You couldn’t stay in school and you rushed down here to see him. You want to know something? My brother like you too. He liked you from the first day you became his classmate. He came home talking about a pretty new girl in class named Odeya.”
Odeya brought down her face twisted in sadness. “I was always being sassy to him. He told me severally that he hate me.” she said.
Jimi smiled. “No, he didn’t. It didn’t stop his likeness for you. He was always hoping you stop being sassy to him. He was also angry that you two became competitors but it didnt stop him from liking you. I’m sure if he wakes up and heard you came, he would be very happy.”
“Then can I stay until he wakes up?”
Amanda took her hand. “Of course not Deya. We have to leave soon.”
“Why?” Odeya asked..
“You can’t stay until he wakes up. He might wake up in the evening or in the night or even tomorrow. You have to go home.” Jimi said.
“I’m not going to do anything at home. I’d rather stay here until sunset. I want him to see me when he wake up.” Odeya said.
Amanda sighed.
“Your nanny is here too and she would wanna go home.” Jimi said.
“She’s my nanny and have to take care of me anywhere. She can’t leave. She would have to stay if I stay.” Odeya said.
“What about Peter?” Amanda asked her.
“He should leave and come back when we need him.” Odeya said.
Jimi and Amanda looked at themselves.
Amanda has no other choice than to stay.
“I would go tell him then. I would be back.” she said and headed out.
“Odeya… You surprise me alot. I’ve never seen a little girl like you.” Amanda chuckled.
She got to the car. Peter was sitting on the driver’s seat, listening to news.
She opened the passenger’s seat and went in.
“Ah ahn.. Where Odeya. I have been waiting for how many hours?” Peter said.
“She doesn’t want to leave yet. Her boyfriend got into an accident and she want to stay until he wakes up. We might call you in the evening.” Amanda said.
Peter laughed. “You say boyfriend? Odeya get boyfriend? Ha! Wonders shall never end. This small small children of this centuary.”
Amanda chuckled. “I will call you.” she said.
“Okay o.” Peter said.
Amanda got down from the car and Peter left immediately, besides he was so hungry. He will have to stop by at a restaurant and fill his stomach.

“About yesterday. It was nice that we met.” Jimi said to Odeya.
“Really? You almost hit me with your bicycle.” Odeya said.
“I did apologize over and over again.” Jimi said.
Odeya sniffed. ” Maybe it would have been better if it had hit me than Jeremy getting into a car accident. Maybe I should have let you hit me. I feel that if i had been hit by your bicycle, he wouldn’t have gotten into an accident.”
Jimi put his arm around her thus making her lay her head on his chest.
“Don’t say that again Deya. I don’t believe that. Jeremy got into an accident not because you didn’t get hit by my bicycle. Come on don’t think that.” he said.
Tears had gathered in her eyes and it didn’t take a minute for them to roll down her eyes.
“I want him to get up soon and come to school.” Deya said.
“He will.” Jimi said.
Amanda walked in and smiled when he saw the position Jimi and Deya were in.
She exhaled. “She is really sad.”
She walked to them and sat down beside Odeya.
Odeya sat up and turned to Amanda.
“I don’t wanna sit here, let’s go to Jeremy.” She said.
Amanda took her hand. “I would be sincere. I don’t want to be in there. I don’t like seeing sick people and I hate the smell of hospital.”
Odeya pulled her hand off. “Then I would be in there alone.” She said and got up. “His mom is still in there. So I won’t be alone.” she added.
Jimi smiled.
‘He’s never seen a girl like Odeya who cares so much about someone that she likes.’
Amanda stood up. “Let’s go.” she said.
Jimi stood up and together, they headed to the ward.

Mr Adebayo had left an hour ago. Mrs Adebayo was still sitting beside her son, holding his hand tenderly.
The trio walked in and Odeya walked to her.
“I would sit beside you ma’am.” Odeya said.
Mrs Adebayo looked at her. “Why?”
“Because I want to stay with Jeremy. I want him to see me when he wake up.” Odeya said.
Mrs Adebayo couldn’t hold back the smile that appeared on her face.
Hours Later, Amanda was carrying Sleeping Odeya as they sat at the ward.
Jimi left minutes ago to the restroom and Mrs Adebayo was making a call outside.
Amanda suddenly saw Jeremy’s eyelids shake then his finger moved.
“Is he waking up?” she wondered.
She remembered what Odeya had told her.
«Nanny, i feel sleepy and might sleep off.. If you notice Jeremy waking up, wake me up.»
Jeremy’s index finger moved again.
Then his eyelid began opening.
Amanda touched Odeya’s cheek. “Odeya, you have to wake up now. Odeya.. odeya.”
Odeya opened her eyes.
When they turned to Jeremy, his eyes were open.
He looked completely confused.
“Mom..Dad..” Waere the first people he mentioned. Then his eyes landed on Odeya.
Deya felt happy, that he got to see her when he woke up.
“Hi Jeremy, how are you feeling?” Odeya asked.
“I will be back. ” Amanda said and hurried out.
“Odeya..” Jeremy called.
“Hi Jeremy. It’s a relief that you are awake now.” Odeya said with a smile.

(Hours later )
Odeya and Amanda were ready to go home. Desmond had called, demanding where they went to.
Amanda had told him that she would explain when they are back.
It was 6pm. There had stayed in the hospital all day.
Jeremy had woken up, slept again and woke up again… He had been so excited to see Odeya and guess what? Odeya had been telling him the folktales that Amanda told her.
Even in such condition, Odeya was happy that her wish of being Jeremy’s friend had come true.
“We are going leaving now.” Amanda said to Jimi, his mom and Jeremy.
Odeya wished they won’t but she has to go home.
“Thank you so much for being here with us. Thank you Odeya and Amanda. God bless you.” Mrs Adebayo said.
“Bless you too ma.” Amanda said.
“Thank you for staying with Jeremy. You were a great company to us today.” Jimi said.
“Odeya.” Jeremy called.
“Yes Jeremy.” Odeya answered.
“Thank you.” he said.
Odeya smiled. “Don’t mention. I’ll be here tomorrow to see you. For now, I gotta go.”
‘What, here again tomorrow?’ Amanda breathed in.
“Bye Jeremy. Bye Jeremy’s brother and bye ma’am.” Odeya said, waving at them.
“Bye.” Amanda said and pulled Odeya along and they headed out.
Amanda had called Peter and he was on his way already.
“Are you okay?” Amanda asked Odeya as she notice her face grow pale.
“I’m fine.” Odeya said.
Peter pulled into the hospital five minutes later and soon they were heading back home.

Soon, they pulled into the house and Amanda saw the car Desmond left to work with parked at home.
‘But why is he back from work so early?’ she wondered and it frightened her.
How would she explain to him about Odeya leaving school to be with a classmate in a hospital.
“Why’s my dad back so early.?” Odeya asked.
Amanda inhaled.
“Let’s go.”She said and carried Odeya down.
I.K rushed towards and standing in front of Amanda and Odeya, he shook his head.
“Oga done come back o – Boss is back” he said and scratched his head.
Amanda didn’t answer him but headed towards the house with Odeya in her arm.
“Aren’t I heavy?” Odeya asked.
“No, you don’t seem to be today.” Amanda said.
“Ah maybe cos I spent my day in a hospital.” Odeya said and Amanda placed her index finger on Odeya’s lips.
“You can’t tell your dad or I might get fired.” she said and removed her finger.
“What? Don’t be scared. I have him to deal with.” Odeya said.
“Such confident. How can you deal with your dad.” Amanda asked.
“Just watch.” Odeya said.
Amanda opened the door and walked into the sitting room.
She got a bit relieved that Odeya’s dad wasn’t in the sitting room.
“He must be upstairs. Come on, take me to my room, quickly.” Odeya said.
“Are you scared Deya?” Amanda asked.
“I don’t think. It wasn’t my intention to be.” Odeya said.
For the first time, Amanda saw fear in Odeya’s eyes.
Maybe she is being scared to tell her dad that she missed school to stay with a male classmate in the hospital.
Amanda turned towards upstairs, they had taken only few steps when they heard someone come out from the kitchen to the dinning.
“My dad?” Odeya whispered.
“It should be. I’m sure he had seen us already.” Amanda said.
“I’m not sure. From the dinning, it’s hard to see who’s at the staircase” Odeya said.
“Honey, is that you??” A female voice said from the dinning and Amanda and Odeya’s eyes instantly met.
“Dinner is set.” the same voice said and Amanda had no idea what came over her, she saw herself rush down the staircase and soon, she was facing the fair looking lady in a yellow jumpsuit, fake long lashes and face beautified with makeup. Lips full of red lip gloss and annoying nose ring.
Odeya was still in her arm but she didn’t care how heavy she was but who the hell the lady standing in front of her wearing the kitchen apron over her yellow jumpsuit is.
“Oh… You are back. Welcome Odeya. you look so so beautiful. I made dinner. Do you wanna change first before eating or you don’t mind eating now?” She said, smiling.
“Who are you and what are you doing here?” Odeya asked. “Put me down nanny.”
Amanda put her down and she walked closer to Gold.
‘Such gut’ Gold scoffed within.
“I’m Gold Benson. Your dad’s girlfriend. I wanted to see you so badly and that’s the reason why I’m here and again, I really wanna be here. You are so beautiful Odeya. I know we would be good friends.” Gold said with smiles.
‘What? Her dad’s girlfriend??’ Amanda felt her heart ache at that.
“My Dad’s girlfriend? Have you realized that you are in the wrong place?” Odeya said.
“Excuse?” Gold said, surprised.
“Get out of this house right now and never go close to my dad from now onwards. If you don’t wanna be in trouble.” Odeya warned.
Gold was shocked. Amanda was happy.
The room was tense.
“What’s happening?” That was Desmond’s voice as he climbed down the staircase.
Amanda’s heart skipped at his presence.
Gold rushed to him and took his hand. “Honey, your daughter. She’s being rude to me.” Gold said, pretending to be in tears.
Odeya scoffed and rushed to them and grabbed Gold’s arm… “Get your hand off my dad!”
“Odeya.. stop that.” Desmond said and removed odeya’s little hand from Gold’s arm.
“Come over here Deya.” he pulled her to his left.
“Don’t be rude to the lady that your dad’s love. You gotta love her too.”
“Dad you are joking…You and mom are gonna be together again, she can’t be here and I can never like her. Get out of this house lady! You look so annoying and irritating.”
“Odeya! Stop!!” Desmond half yelled.
Amanda gasped.
She had no idea that he can yell at his daughter.
“Leave us Amanda.” he said to her. Amanda felt her heart being pierced in several places as she walked the staircase.
Why’s she feeling this way.
She don’t like it.
“Dad I hate her and I can’t stand seeing her.” Odeya said and with that, she ran upstairs.
Desmond took Gold’s hands.
“I’m sorry about that. You don’t need to worry.. She’s generally rude.. She’ll get to be relaxed with you in no time.” he said to Gold.
“Really?” Gold asked.
She won’t stand the chance to be insulted by that runt. She just have to bear it for today.
“Yes baby,” Desmond said.
Gold smiled. “Come on then, sit and have your dinner.” she said.
“I have to call Odeya. I’ll be back in a jiffy.” he said.
“I don’t think she would want to eat my good.” Gold said.
“It’s okay. I will be right back.” he said and with that, he went upstairs.
Gold scoffed.
“Wonders shall never end. Look at that little thing. How dare she! Well shall see.”

Amanda was in Odeya’s room, dressing her bed when Odeya opened the door and entered.
“I’m so annoyed with that. I’m so disappointed as well.” Odeya said.
Amanda exhaled.
“I will help you take off your school wears. You’ve been wearing it all day.” she said and proceeded to do so.
The door opened and Desmond walked in.
“Deya..” he called.
“Don’t call my name if she’s still in this house.” Odeya said.
Amanda faced Odeya’s shoes that she was untying the lace.
She don’t want to look at him. She felt like her heart is going to split into thousands of pieces if she do.
This isn’t supposed to be happening to her. She isn’t supposed to like her boss.
She is stupid… She’s an idiot for falling in love with her boss without knowing why.
No.. It’s not love. She doesn’t want to believe that she is in love with her boss.
She just have to focus on being a nanny to Odeya, get paid for her job and leave soon enough.
“Deya, please listen to me. She isn’t bad. She was dying to meet you. You can’t treat her this way. She loves you so much.” Desmond said.
“What about mom!” Odeya half yelled.
That was when Amanda looked up at Desmond and she could see how his expression changed. She couldn’t understand the expression well enough but it looked like he wasn’t expecting that and again, he didn’t want to hear that name.
But she wasn’t expecting him to look at her. Their eyes met and she quickly looked away.
Why did he look at her?
She get it.. He don’t want her to be here while they talk about Odeya’s mom.
“I..I will be back to dress your room and arrange your school uniform for tomorrow’s school.” Amanda said to Odeya and with that, she walked out and closed the door but why couldn’t she leave the door.
“Odeya, can you stop talking about your mom? I’m here for you and there’s someone who wanna be here for you as well. Please.. Come on, let’s go downstairs, you must be hungry.”
“I want my mom and I want you both back together.” Odeya said.
“Deya…”
Amanda walked away from the door and went into her room.
“Was it really Divorce?” Amanda asked herself.
It’s so obvious that it is.
‘What do I do about this?’ Amanda wondered.

“Whatever dad! I don’t want her here.. She gotta leave.” Odeya said. “..and about dinner, my nanny would make it for me.” Deya said.
Desmond sighed and stood up.
“I will call your nanny then.” he said and with that, he walked out and got to Amanda’s room.
He knocked and Amanda who was sitting at the edge of her bed sprang up.
‘Who’s that?’ she wondered.
Is it Odeya?
Amanda walked to the door and opening it, her heart jumped at the sight of Desmond.
Their eyes met again.
“S..sir?” She stammered and faced down.
“Go to Odeya..” Desmond said.
Amanda nodded.
He turned to leave but halted and turned back to Amanda who quickly faced down again.
“Are you okay?” he asked her.
“Huh.. Ye yes I am.” Amanda answered.
“I’d like to tell you something later.” he said.
‘Tell me something? What do he want to tell me?’ Amanda wondered.
“Ok okay sir.” she answered.
Desmond turned and left downstairs. Amanda came out and watched him until he disappeared out of the corridor.
She exhaled and hit her forehead.
“What is wrong with me… What what what… I have to end this.. He has a girlfriend. How can I even like him. He has a girlfriend while Odeya want her mom and him back together.. I don’t even have the slightest chance. He won’t even notice that I have some feeling for him. I’m such an idiot if I don’t end this feeling right away.” she said and walked into Odeya’s room to see her crying.
“What? Why are you crying?” Amanda said and rushed to Odeya.
“What’s wrong.. You don’t have to cry.” Amanda said, hugging Odeya.
“When I see other kids with their parents, both their mom and dad, I get envious and mad.” Odeya said amidst tears.
Amanda caressed her hair, not knowing what to say.
“Nanny, can you do something for me?” Odeya said.
“What’s that?” Amanda asked.
“Promise that you will do it.” Odeya said.
“What’s that.. Do I have to promise first?” Amanda said.
“Yes,” odeya said.
Amanda exhaled. “Okay then. I promise. What’s it?”
Odeya looked into her eyes. “Can you make my mom and dad get back together?”
Amanda got shocked.
“H..how I’m I supposed to do that?” she asked.
“Please do that for me.” Odeya said.

“Odeya I don’t think I can do that…” Amanda said.
“Why? Because you like my daddy?” Odeya asked.
“No.. How can I do that when I have no idea what happened between your dad and your mom.” Amanda said.
“I was three years old when it happened I got no idea how it happened but my mom and dad got divorced. I don’t know why.” Odeya said.
“Divorced” Amanda said.
She was right all this time.
What could have caused their divorce?
It’s been two years now.
“Parents who got divorced could get back together right?” Odeya asked.
Amanda inhaled. “It’s rare to see that but it happens tho. Some get back together but it’s really rare.” she said.
Odeya sighed. “I wanna have a complete parents.. I don’t want just my dad nor just my mom. I want both of them seeing me grow up and taking Care of me. I don’t want another person replacing my mom. I don’t want another mom.”
Amanda from that moment wish her feelings for Odeya’s dad would vanish totally.
Odeya can’t accept another other woman for her dad except for her biological mom.
Amanda knew that Gold won’t stand Odeya. She would have to leave Desmond after being rejected by Odeya.
Amanda wondered how she would be able to end her feelings.
Maybe she should leave here. It feel like it’s the best thing for her to do.
Staying here would make her fall even more for him and how would she be able to fulfil odeya’s request.
It won’t be possible for her.
Odeya hugged her. “Please get my dad and mom back together. It feels like you are the only one I can tell this to.”
Amanda exhaled and placed her hand on Odeya’s curly hair. Caressing it, she thought of how to escape all these. After few minutes of thoughts, she stood up.
“Odeya, I have to go make you dinner. Do you wanna stay in your room?”
“I’ll stay here. I want noodles.” Odeya said.
Amanda smiled. “I will make that for you..”
Amanda picked the Children’s Story Book on the table and gave to her. “Read this. I will be back soon.”
She left and didn’t notice Odeya watch her until she did.
Odeya breathed out. “I should be nice to her from onwards. That way, she would do what I requested for.” she said.

Amanda headed downstairs and her heart sank when she heard the laughter of Desmond and Gold.
She saw them sitting on a couch, watching a movie and laughing out. They both held a glass of wine and a pack of snacks was on the table.
Amanda inhaled, trying to control her anger at the both of them…
How could he laugh like that when his daughter is in her room, crying!
And why is she still doing here. Isn’t it time for her to leave to her house!!
Amanda felt like rushing to them and dealing with her but she couldn’t.
She finally got down the staircase and was passing to the dinning when Desmond suddenly spoke and Amanda halted.
They couldn’t see her cos she was behind them.
“Baby, I should take you home now, it’s getting to nine.” Desmond said.
Gold placed her finger to his lips and winked at him.
Amanda didn’t see the wink but she saw the index finger placed on Desmond’s lips.
“There’s no leaving tonight honey. Let’s share this night together. I promise you a great night together.” Gold said, her voice seductive and tempting.
Amanda tightened her fists and gritted her teeth in rage.
Desmond smiled and touched her cheek. “Come on babe, i’d want that but my daughter’s gonna be mad if she finds out you spend the night here.” Desmond said.
Gold rolled her eyes. “Come on honey.. Odeya is just a little girl. Don’t tell me you are being scared of your five years old daughter.”
“I’m not Baby…but my Odeya is a very sensitive girl.” Desmond said.
Gold placed her hand on his chest and gave him a seductive smile. “Look into my eyes honey.” she said.
Desmond looked into her eyes for a moment and the next thing, Gold kissed him then pulled away a bit. “I would climb the highest mountain and sail through the widest ocean just to be with you honey. Don’t worry about Odeya, I would make her like me.” she said and crushed her lips on his again and they began kissing.
Amanda couldn’t stand there anymore, the anger boiling inside her could cook a pot of meal. She left to the kitchen.
Gold pulled away their kissing and smiled at Desmond. “I think I’m bored of watching this movie, why don’t we go upstairs and see a better movie honey.” she said.
Desmond had no say anymore since he’s been controlled.
He smiled at her. “Of course baby.”
They stood up and Gold was wise enough to carry her bag. They headed upstairs.

When Amanda got to the kitchen, she saw the whole sink and counter messed up.
“Wait, she didn’t even clean up the things she used in cooking whatever meal she cooked? Huh! I can’t stand her..” Amanda said angrily.
Amanda slammed the cupboard angrily, she shut the fridge and shouted at the water in the pot for taking time to boil.
She transferred the aggression to the things in the kitchen including the noodles and eggs.
She finally got herself when the noodle was almost buring. She turned off the cooker and exhaled.
“Is it right for me to be upset! What right do I have to be upset about this.. Get yourself Chimamanda. Get yourself.” she told herself.
She served Odeya’s meal and hers too and placed both of them in a tray. She added a bottle water and cups and came out from the kitchen.
She didn’t meet the duo anymore. They left the TV on. The wines were still remaining in the glasses and the snacks too.
Amanda exhaled and headed upstairs.

While passing Desmond’s room door, she tried hard not to let any dirty thought into her mind. She hurried pass the door and entered Odeya’s room.
Odeya was still reading the book.
“Deya dear, I’m back. Did I take long?” Amanda asked.
“Uhm maybe a little.” Deya said.
“I’m sorry. Here’s your meal. Eat up so you can take your bathe and go to bed.” Amanda said.
Odeya dropped the book.
“Are you eating noodles too?” Deya asked.
“Yes.. I am. If you don’t mind, let me eat here with you.” Amanda said.
“Uh really? But I want you to feed me.” Odeya lied.
“Really? You told me you don’t like it.” Amanda said.
“I suddenly like it. I’m still a kid.” Odeya said.
“Oh I thought you weren’t anymore. But anyways, I would feed you” Amanda said and took Odeya’s fork.
Odeya rolled her eyes and collected her fork back.. “That’s okay. I was just joking.”
Amanda smiled.
“Had she left?” Odeya asked.
Amanda raised her brows at her. “Huh who?”
Odeya stared at her…giving her a look of -acting-like-you-don’t-know-who-I’m-talking-about-
Amanda cleared her throat. “Oh.. She..she..”
“Never mind. She haven’t, I know. I’m gonna make sure she breaks up with my dad.”
“How can you do that? You…you are just a little girl.” Amanda said.
Odeya hit her fork on the tray. “Don’t say that.. I know what I’m gonna do.”
“Can you tell me?” Amanda asked. She was curious and it felt like there’s some hope.
“I will tell you since I need your help.” Odeya said. “I will threaten him of going back to my mom if he doesn’t break up with her.”
“Just that?” Amanda asked.
“I don’t know.. I wasn’t expecting this. I’m so mad right now. I gotta do something.” Odeya said.
Amanda felt like there’s nothing Odeya can do. At the sitting room, she saw how crazy Desmond is about the lady. She doesn’t think anything can stop them, including Odeya.
She just have to find her way out of her crazy feeling for him and find the words to tell Odeya to accept her dad’s girlfriend then leave after.
She have to think about it.
“I know you like my dad. Do you still like him?” Odeya said.
Amanda smiled. “Not anymore. Let’s eat before it gets cold.”
Odeya stared at her, trying to find if she’s saying the truth or not.. but she couldn’t find any.
‘It would be good if she doesn’t. That way she can help me get my dad and mom together. I miss my mom.’ She said within.

After their meal, Amanda bathe Odeya and she went to bed.
“Goodnight Deya. See you tomorrow.” Amanda said.
“Are you going to leave without telling me a folktale tonight?” Odeya asked.
Oh Amanda had forgotten her every night routine of telling Odeya folktales.
“Uhmm okay. I think I have one.” Amanda said and settled back on the chair.
She could see Odeya’s face lighten up.

Desmond and Gold cuddled each other after their love making.
Gold had something to tell Desmond… It had been on her mind even before coming.
She was going to ask Desmond for money and she was sure he wouldn’t hesitate to give it to her since she has him under her control.
Gold owns a big ladies underwears and face care boutique with lots of employees working for her.
Gold can be said to be an independent lady, comfortable although not from a wealthy family but her parents are middle class.
Gold is comfortably rich but knowing that Desmond had become her scape goat, she would request and she’s certain he wouldn’t hesitate.
“Honey” she called.
“Yes baby.” Desmond answered.
“I got something to tell you.” she said.
Desmond faced her and they stared into each other’s eyes.
“What’s it?” Desmond asked.
“I need some money for my business..” she said and watched his eyes.
She saw that he didn’t get irritated by that.
“How much will that be?” he asked.
She smiled. “Uhmm 1.6million naira.”
Desmond caressed her hair. “It’s okay. I’m gonna write you a check.” he said.
She kissed him. “Thank you baby.”
‘Wow I truly own him.. Ha ha. Baba was right. Even if I request of 10million naira, I’m sure he wouldn’t oppose. My Gold you are so very smart. Ha ha ha.’ she laughed within.
“Anything for you sugar.” he said and reciprocated the kiss.

Amanda finally left Odeya’s room after telling her the folktale..
As she carried the tray of empty plate and cups and got to Desmond’s room door, she had wanted to hurry away but she saw herself halting and she felt like breaking through the door and throwing that girl out of this house and far away where she wouldn’t be able to see Desmond again nor will Desmond see her.
But there was nothing she could do, but just stand there staring at the door.
She got herself, shook her head and continued her walk downstairs.
‘I promised myself to drop this feeling.. Ignore whatever is happening between them. It’s not your business, Amanda it’s not your business’ Amanda told herself.
‘You’ve already decided to tell Odeya to accept her as her dad’s girlfriend, format every feeling you have for him from your heart then leave this house after your are paid You can’t change your mind’
Yes I can’t change my mind. I can’t help Odeya with her request neither can I let this feeling go on, I’m ending it and it starts now. Be strong Amanda. You should know you cant fall for your boss. Do what is right by doing just what you came here to do.”
